AIOU expedites mailing of books to its 0.7 million students

 Daily Times
Allama Iqbal Open University(AIOU) has so far dispatched books and allied materials to more than 45 thousands students enrolled in PTC programme for the Semester Spring, 2015 and the books to students of FA programme are being sent from Thursday.

A mobile SMS has also been sent to all the students of PTC program, informing them about the date of their mailing of books and the students are advised to contact with the nearest post office for this purpose. Students of matric, FA, BA/BEd of the Spring semester across the country will receive their books and allied reading material this month. The books for other programmes will be dispatched during next month. The entire process will be completed by May 31.
The Mailing Department of the university has been given a target date to complete the process, said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui while inaugurating the books' mailing process. The relevant staffs have also been advised to ensure accuracy in the mailing system to avoid any inconvenience to the students'.
The students will get books at their given address through post offices. All the enrolled students from matric to postgraduate-level will be informed about the mailing date through sms messages, where their cell numbers are available with the university. Automaton mailing system has been introduced from this semester for the quick delivery of the books. In the first phase, the books are being dispatched to the students of PTC, Matric, FA and BEd.
According to Mailing Department Director Syed Qamar uddin, books-tracking system has also been introduced and now the students could check information about their books by visiting website mailing.aiou.edu.pk
In case of any delay in receipt of books, students can contact university's complaint numbers: 051-9250158 and 051-9057611. They can also contact on email address mailing@aiou.edu.pk.
The books will be sent to around seven hundred thousand students in all parts of the country. This is a huge task, but he said they have completed all the arrangements to do the job within the target period of time, given by the vice chancellor.

SASSI University launched in capital

ISLAMABAD: Chairperson of newly established SASSI University Dr. Maria Sultan Monday said that Pakistan requires outside the box approach of knowledge partnership for overcoming challenges.
Addressing the launching ceremony of the university, Maria Sultan, also renowned defence analyst, said that today Pakistan faces enormous challenges as "we stand at the threshold of the 21st Century with baggage of 19th Century." She added that global security has transformed tremendously with changes in research, technology and inter-state relations and ever changing dynamics of security itself. She was addressing the launching ceremony of SASSI University, here on Monday.
Dr. Maria Sultan, while introducing the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) University, expressed her gratitude to the President of Pakistan for providing the patron-ship to the University, and the Defence Minister of Pakistan, and the SASSI advisory board as well for their unconditional support to the University. "We are happy to announce that SASSI University is a premier institute of higher learning which is geared to provide the nation a response capability to deal with growing challenges, adding that it is only through knowledge that we can bring Pakistan forward and out of these challenges." She addressed the ceremony.
The courses offered at the SASSI University on National Security, Peace Studies, Media Sciences, Counter-terrorism and Intelligence Studies are just few courses designed to enable the nation and the next generation to meet the paradoxes with knowledge, Dr. Maria informed. "Pakistan has faced challenges which have been unprecedented both in terms of the nature, scale and degree of conflict and threats faced." She expressed. She was of the view that Pakistan requires an outside the box approach for the changing environments and to prepare Pakistan for the challenges.
